David Theroux R.I.P.

It is with deep sadness that I must report the passing of David Theroux.

David founded and directed the Independent Institute, a think tank that has published more than 140 scholarly books – many of which won national book awards. He also created and published The Independent Review.

For a number of years, David encouraged me to write a book on health care policy and finally I relented. Priceless: Curing the Healthcare Crisis was praised by scholars as well as members of Congress, but it was completely different from anything that had previously been written on health economics.

It still is. And because of that fact, prior to his death David and I were planning a second edition.

David also persisted in nudging me to write New Way to Care: Social Protections that put Families FirstOver a long period of time, scholars working with the National Center for Policy Analysis had done path breaking research on social insurance programs both in the United States and around the world. But this work had never been synthesized and made available to the general public. David said no one else could write such a book. So, we collaborated and got it done.

Graham Walker, Executive Director of Independent, has this to say:

David Theroux’s passion for freedom, peace and liberty, and for improving human life, will live on with all of those he inspired.
