Update on Saez and Zucman

If you are a high school debater focused on the topic of inequality, it shouldn’t take you long to discover The Triumph of Injustice: How the Rich Dodge Taxes and How to Make Them Pay, by economists Emmanuel Saez and Gabriel Zucman.

S-Z claim that there has been growing inequality in the US and they propose draconian taxes on the rich to ameliorate that outcome.

However, Brookings Institution economist William Gale notes that S-Z use weird definitions of “income” and “taxes.” These definitions are different from conventional economics as well as common sense. Hoover Institution economist David Henderson argues that Zucman dishonestly manipulates data – sometimes even contradicting himself to arrive out apparently predetermined outcomes.

John C. Goodman is President of the Goodman Institute and Senior Fellow at The Independent Institute. His books include the soon-to-be-published updated edition of Priceless: Curing the Healthcare Crisis, the widely acclaimed A Better Choice: Healthcare Solutions for America, and New Way to Care: Social Protections that Put Families First. The Wall Street Journal and National Journal, among other media, have called him the “Father of Health Savings Accounts.”
