Nan Hayworth, M.D., represented New York’s 19th congressional district in the 112th Congress. A board-certified ophthalmologist and the only female physician ever elected a Member of Congress, Dr Hayworth promoted conservative economic principles and fiscal discipline, relying on her medical background to analyze health care initiatives.
She graduated from Princeton University and earned an M.D. from Cornell University. Dr Hayworth practised for 16 years, starting with her own solo practice and later joining a large multispecialty medical group; she has also worked extensively as a medical director in healthcare communications.
Dr Hayworth appears frequently as a commentator in national and local media.
Raised in northwest Indiana, Dr Hayworth has lived for nearly 30 years in Westchester County, New York.
