Bill Murchison, RIP

William (Bill) Murchison was a reporter, editorial writer, syndicated columnist, historian, author, professor of journalism and much more. As a scholar at my think tank, he produced an excellent analysis of the Community Reinvestment Act.

He authored several books, the most recent of which was The Cost of Liberty: The Life of John Dickinson

His former Dallas Morning News editorial writer colleague, Rena Pederson, described Bill as “a true Southern gentleman,” adding that when a lady entered the room, he would stand and offer her a chair.

“His idea of business casual was to wear a seersucker suit in summer instead of pinstripes,” she said.

Bill had strong views on politics, religion and other matters. Yet I never met anyone who didn’t like Bill Murchison – regardless of their views.

Bill Murchison was 83. We will miss him.

His books include the soon-to-be-published updated edition of Priceless: Curing the Healthcare Crisis, the widely acclaimed A Better Choice: Healthcare Solutions for America, and New Way to Care: Social Protections that Put Families First. The Wall Street Journal and National Journal, among other media, have called him the “Father of Health Savings Accounts.”
